Calvin loves books. He loves looking through books on his own, and he loves being read to. When someone is reading with him he helps turn the pages. The pictures make him smile and he laughs when the characters laugh. Right now he loves Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems and also Each Peach Pear Plum and Peekaboo by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.
Calvin also loves music. One of his favorite toys is the Munchkin Mozart Magic Cube which plays six different excerpts from Mozart pieces and can play each instrument part separately or combined with other instruments. It's cool. Often Calvin will play music from the Magic Cube while he plays with other toys and when the music stops, he'll just reach over and start it again.
Here's a video of Calvin combining two of his favorites: books and music!
We keep board books where he can reach them and we read to him at naptimes and bedtime.
The other night, my mom put Calvin to bed with his usual routine. When she left him in his crib, he didn't cry so we all assumed he went right to sleep. A little while later, James went into the bedroom to get something. He sneaked in quietly, expecting Calvin to be asleep. To his surprise, there was Calvin sitting in his crib and quietly flipping through the pages of Corduroy! Mom had left the book on the bedside table which is within reach of the crib and Calvin had pulled it through the bars to enjoy a little extra quiet reading time before going off to sleep!
What a sweet boy! As my dad would say, "It makes my heart soar like a hawk!" :)
